Sunday Service – 10:30 AM

We enjoy singing worship songs together each Sunday morning using YouTube video music. Our small choir leads the worship, and sometimes soloists present special music during the services.

Our worship services are designed to focus on what we value the most – the expository teaching and preaching of the Bible. Understanding and knowing the Bible is essential to a Christian’s spiritual well-being. Pastor Josiah Anyinsah brings refreshing preaching that is focused on explaining the Scriptures.

The new brick building was built in 1903, now known as Boston Road Baptist Church, West Croydon. In 2010, the back rooms of the church hall were converted into a flat to house their full-time minister.

The data from the church offers little on the membership at the church. The data collected were from members, some of whom have been attending the church since 1993. Data from two significant members aged 74 and 94 were checked and examined with church activities through the lens of old photos from the 1980s. They reported that the church had many members, but its membership declined significantly over the years.

In April 1980, aged 102, Stanley and Boston Road Mission Chapel 1878 were made a church in its own right, and there were about two hundred people at the inauguration.

The Boston Road mission is a Baptist mission associated with the West Croydon Baptist Church, Whitehorse Road (Spurgeon’s Tabernacle). And it is one of the remaining two missions of the West Croydon Baptist Church. The other is the Joynson Memorial Hall on Pawsons Road, Thornton Health.

On the 16th of June 1878, Mr Denman, a Sunday school teacher at the West Croydon Chaple, now West Croydon Baptist Church, approached the elders to plan a church at Stanley Road North and Lower York Road, now Boston Road and Wortley Road.

It was initially named Stanley and Boston Road Mission Chapel. The early building was a Tin Tab structure erected on the corner of Stanley Rd North and Lower York Rd in 1880 (Perriss, 2011).

The original building of Boston Road Mission in Croydon was an iron building of the type known as “Tin Tabs” bought from the Wesleyans at Tooting for £330 and erected on the corner of Boston Road (then known as Stanley Rd North) & Wortley Rd (then known as Lower York Rd) in 1880 and first known as Stanley and Boston Road Mission Chapel. Mr Denman, sometime in 1879, was appointed superintendent of both the work at Lower York and Joynson Memorial Hall.
